W hy old and new testament

The Old Testament describes the covenant with God. More detailed explanation below.

God created man. Because of the fall, man had to be forgiven first so that they could live with God in heaven. They obtained forgiveness by keeping the commandments. Which is not just 10 commandments, but over 300 commandments. After death you came to the last judgment and it was decided whether you went to heaven or hell.

However, God knows that it will be impossible to keep all these commandments in the end times. It is for this reason that God sacrificed his Son. His son, Jesus, took the sins of all people upon himself with his death. From the age of Jesus onwards, the attainment of salvation through forgiveness through Jesus Christ applies.

For Christianity, Israel's covenant with God was confirmed and fulfilled in the new covenant of God with humanity through the life and death of Jesus Christ. The Christian religion therefore adopted the Jewish Bible (the "Old Covenant") as the Old Testament and supplemented it with the New Testament (the "New Covenant"). The New Testament consists of the four Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, the literature of letters and the Revelation of John. Its final version was determined around AD 400.
